Cats on Tuesday & Toesday

(Click the photos for a larger image)
Here are some photos of one of my paws that gives you a good view of my paw pads. You can see the thick paw pads that are typical of Sphynx, which some people say give Sphynx the appearance of walking on cushions. Because of our furless feet and long, gripping toes, we Sphynx are very good at using our paws to pick up small items that catch our fancy. In the close-up view, you can also seem some of the oil that has built up on my skin that needs to be cleaned off, as well as a few of tiny, fine hairs that are on my paws, ears and tail.

My Sleeping Bag
A lot of you have asked what my sleeping bag looks like. Here are several photos of me in my sleeping bag, either on my mom's lap, or in my tent. It is very warm and cozy.

My First Snowfall!
On Tuesday, something very weird started to happen. White stuff started falling from the sky! I was totally entranced by this! I wondered what was going on. My humans explained to me that the white stuff was snow, and that it was very cold, so that I probably wouldn't like it.
(Click the collage for a larger image)
(Click the collage for a larger image)I was very curious about this white stuff called snow, and so my mom put my harness on, and opened the patio door, so I could have a sniff. I didn't like it very much. It was cold, and I don't like cold!
On Wednesday, the white stuff continued to fall from the sky, and I continued to watch it fall down, in between play times and naps.

I must say that it looks pretty, but I wouldn't want to go outside with all this white, cold stuff on the ground. I have decided that I like to watch this snow when it's falling down, but I have no interest in exploring it any closer. I'll stay inside where it's nice and warm, curled up on a warm lap or cozy in my sleeping bag or under a blanket.

Here is a photo of me perched on my dad's leg. I was taking a short break in the middle of playing with my multi-coloured fleece wand toy. You can see the toes of my right paw very well in this photo. It shows off the long toes that are typical of the Sphynx breed.

Frootbat Friday

(Click the photo for a larger image)
Here I am checking out all the movement outside due to the windstorm we had yesterday. Winds during the day were up to 55 km/hr (34 mph) with winds last night up to 170 km/hr (105 mph). Today it is still very windy - around 45 km/hr (28 mph), with gusts up to 70 km/hr (44 mph). Schools are closed today, and all the civilians at my dad's work were sent home early yesterday as was anyone who lived outside the city and had a lengthy drive home.
Me and my humans are fine. Everything looks okay here, except that we lost a panel on the fence between our yard and our neighbour's yard. I'm sure the landlord will have it fixed when the storm is over. When the winds were really blowing hard last night, I was happy to curl up in bed with my humans.
I'd also like to take a moment to introduce two new Frootbats at The Little Pink Pig. Piglet is a Sphynx, just like me, and Grover is a Devon Rex, like Daisy the Curly Cat. Stop on by and say hi!

#6 - 13 Cat-Related Words in German
Since I provided a brief introduction to some German cat-related words in "My Big Adventure" post, I thought I would make a list of handy words for cats to know auf Deutsch (in German). Note that all nouns in German have a gender: masculine, feminine or neuter. The article indicates the gender: der is masculine, das is neuter, die is feminine or plural.
- Cat - die Katze, plural: die Katzen
- Tom (male cat who has not been neutered) - der Kater
- Queen (female cat who has not been spayed) - die Kätzin
- Kitten - das Kätzchen
- Veterinarian - der Tierarzt (for a male vet), die Tierärztin (for a female vet)
- Litterbox - das Katzenklo or die Katzentoilette
- Cat litter - das Katzenstreu or die Katzenstreu
- Cat food - das Katzenfutter
- Scratching post - der Kratzbaum
- Catnip - die Katzenminze
- Cat toy - das Katzenspielzeug
- Wand toy - die Spielangel
- Treats - die Katzensnacks (plural)

My Big Adventure
First of all, many thanks to everyone for their well wishes, purrs, and positive thoughts over the past few days. I really appreciate it. You are all the greatest friends a cat could have. Thank you for all your wonderful messages and comments.
So my adventure began Sunday evening. My humans gave me my evening feeding of stinky goodness a little early. I wasn't complaining. About an hour later they took my crunchy food away! I wasn't too upset at the time, since my belly was full. But later that evening, when I went looking for some food, there was none to be had.
Aside from that, I slept through the evening with my humans until the food alarm went off the next morning. My human dad woke up, and got out of bed, but as he was getting ready for work he didn't feed me! I figured he must have forgotten so I went to the door of the food storage room and meowed to be fed. Dad ignored me. So I meowed a little louder. He still ignored me. So I went over to where my food dishes normally are, and where my water bowl still was, and meowed some more. That had no effect, so I went and rubbed against my dad's legs. He reached down to pet me, but he didn't feed me.
So I went back to the bedroom and jumped up on the bed. I walked all over my mom and meowed, then stuck my nose in her face. She reached out to pet me, murmured some words, then got out of bed. But she didn't feed me. So I meowed louder. Both humans were now ignoring my requests for food.
My humans then left, but mom was back fairly soon. I rubbed against her legs and meowed for food again. Once again, she ignored me. Then she took my fleece blanket and put it in the travel box. Then she took my cozy sleeping bag, put me in the sleeping bag, and put me and the bag into the travel box. Then we walked out to the car. I decided I must be on my way to the Tierärztin (vet).
A brief note here on German grammar and vocabulary. The generic term for vet in German is der Tierarzt. A male vet is der Tierarzt. A female vet is die Tierärztin. My vet is a woman, so she's eine Tierärztin.
When mom took my travel box out of the car at the vet's, I was very glad for my cozy sleeping bag and my warm fleece, as it was rather cold out during the walk from the car to the vet's. When we arrived at the vet's office, the friendly vet tech, who thinks I'm adorable, told my mom to bring me right into the room with the shiny table. My mom set my box down on the table, told me Alles ist okay (everything is okay), spoke a few words with the nice vet tech, pet me as best she could through the bars on the travel box, and left me there! She left me all alone!
Fortunately, the nice vet tech took good care of me. She took me out of my travel box, and put my fleece in a cage. Then she lifted me out of my sleeping bag, put me in the shiny table, and drew some blood. She then put me and my sleeping bag in the cage with my fleece, and left me there for a short while.
She came back a little later and brought me into another room with a shiny table. The vet was there too. They stuck me with a needle, and pretty soon I was feeling drowsy. I quickly fell asleep.
When I woke up, I was back in the cage with my sleeping bag and fleece, and still feeling rather drowsy. My behind felt a little sore, and my "goodie bag" felt a little different than it had before. The vet tech was in to check on me, and I slept on and off for a while.
Later on, the vet tech came and took me out of my cage. I was curled up right in the bottom of my sleeping bag, so she picked me up in the bag, and wrapped my fleece around the bag. She brought me out, past the cages and the room with the shiny table. I was so happy to see my mom and dad standing there! The vet tech handed me to my mom, who kissed my head and hugged me. Her hands were cold, so she kept me in my sleeping bag so she wouldn't make me cold. The vet tech went to get my travel box, then my dad and the vet tech took care of some paperwork while my mom held me and kissed my head. When my dad and the vet tech were done, the vet tech came over to pet me and say goodbye, and then my mom put me in the travel box. My mom and dad then took me out to the car.
On the drive home, my mom sat next to me in the back seat. She opened the lid of the travel box, and pet me through the opening in the lid. I was still rather drowsy, so I just curled up in my sleeping bag and let me pet me. I was so happy that my mom and dad came back for me.
When we arrived home, my dad opened up my travel box, and I immediately ran upstairs to my room. I was STARVING and wanted some food. But there was no food there! Only a little bit of water. So I went to use the litter box, then drank a bit of water, then headed downstairs where my humans were. I started meowing, to let my humans know I was hungry. I went over to sit on my dad, meowed, jumped off of him and went over to mom, meowed. They both ignored my meows. I went over to dad, he pet me, and I meowed some more. Mom sat down at the laptop (I understand she was updating my blog for all of you) and I jumped into her lap, and meowed.
My meows weren't having any effect, and I was still feeling a little sleepy, so, with both my humans sitting on the couch and watching TV, I settled myself into my mom's lap, which was covered with my fleece, and let both mom and dad pet me. I slept for a bit.
When mom went upstairs to go to bed, I followed her, hoping she would now give me some food. No luck. My meows had no effect. So I settled into bed with mom. She was reading one of those book-things, but I curled up in her lap and let her pet me.
Eventually dad came to bed, and I settled down between both of them. It was nice and warm under the covers, and although I was still hungry, I was also sleepy.
Thankfully, when the food alarm went off this morning, dad fed me stinky goodness, although it was only half of a normal-sized serving. It was so yummy though! He also put me crunchy food back out. About an hour later, he fed me the other half of the serving. After I ate, since dad had left for work, I went back to bed with mom.
When mom got up, she gave me another half-serving of stinky goodness. This was a new flavour I'd never had before: chicken and shrimp! Real chicken breast and real baby shrimp. Yummy! Mom says I'll get the other half a little later.
After eating, I followed mom downstairs, where we showed me my new toys! I have a treat ball that has yummy cheese-flavoured treats inside it! And two new balls to play with! So you were all right - I still have my toy balls to bat around on the floor and play Fußball and hockey with! My mom also showed me the bird feeder outside in our backyard, so I can have more birdies to watch when they come to eat!
My goodie sack definitely feels different, and I'm still a little more drowsy than usual, but other than that, I'm feeling fine. After I finish this entry, I'm going to curl up in my mom's lap and sleep while she studies. She's studying Anatomy and Physiology, because she's going to be a Physiotherapist. I'll also get around to visiting everyone who has left me a message over the past few days at some point today.
Thanks again to everyone for their well wishes. You are all the best!

Update on Dragonheart
Dragonheart's mom here again. We just picked him up from the vet's office. He's doing fine. A little sleepy, and complaining rather loudly that he can't have food yet. But the vet said he couldn't have food until breakfast tomorrow morning, so he hasn't had anything to eat since last night. So I'm sure he's hungry, and he's letting us know by meowing rather loudly. We'll have to feed him in small portions tomorrow so he doesn't gorge himself and throw his food immediately back up.
The vet tech said he was very well behaved and he charmed everyone. Sphynx are still fairly rare here in Germany (for many years, it was illegal to own one, since the German authorities considered the lack of hair to be a "defect" and it was illegal to own and breed pets with "defects") so most people are surprised by the way he looks at first. Dragonheart quickly charms them with his friendly personality and wins them over.
So Dragonheart is doing well. He doesn't seem to know quite what to do. He moves back and forth between my husband and I without ever really settling down. I'm sure he'll curl up on one of us soon, so we can give him lots of love and attention.
Thanks for everyone for their positive thoughts, purrs, well wishes, and prayers. Dragonheart and I appreciate them. He'll be back to post tomorrow with a recounting of his adventure today.

Meezer Monday
Dragonheart's mom here. Dragonheart is at the vet, where he is being neutered. We pick him up tonight, and when he's home, I'll post an update, to let everyone know how he is doing.
Dragonheart and I posted once before about Whiskers, the Siamese who owned me before Dragonheart came along. For today's Meezer, Monday, I'll provide you with some more information on him.

Whiskers was a wonderful cat, and was my friend and companion for many years. He was a real "people cat", very friendly, and loved being the centre of attention. He was a wonderful friend who has been missed since he went to the Rainbow Bridge.

Frootbat Friday

(Click the photo for a larger image)
Here I am sitting on my mom's desk in front of the huge windows in our living room. I like to sit here in the afternoon because it is nice and warm when the sun shines in.
I'm a little worried right now. I heard my mom talking on the phone with the Tierartz (that's German for Vet) last night! But I'm feeling just fine! They were speaking in German, and mentioned my name, Montag (Monday) and Kastration. I don't know what that German word means! Then I heard my mom and dad talking that I wouldn't have any more balls. So they are going to take my toys away!
But I still don't know what that German words means. Does anyone have any idea what might happen at the vet? Should I be worried?

#5 - 13 Things about me, Dragonheart
- I'm a black and white male Sphynx kitten with green eyes. To learn more about the Sphynx breed, you can check out this post.

- I was born on July 18, 2006.
- I had one litter-mate, a brother.
- My breeder names each of her litters after a certain theme. The theme for my litter was "Fairy Tales" so my brother's name is Merlin, and I am Dragonheart.
- I live in Munich, Germany, with my two humans.
- My human dad is allergic to cats, but fortunately he can tolerate Sphynx. I don't make him sick at all!
I am very friendly, and love being around people.- I have fur on the bridge of my nose, and a little bit of fur on my ears. I am hairless everywhere else.
- Although I am hairless, I don't get cold. Sphynx have faster metabolisms than other cat breeds, and that helps to keep us warm. However, if it's cold enough indoors for a human to need a sweater, than it's likely a Sphynx will be cold, and will find a warm place to lie (in the sun, near a radiator/heating vent, on a warm human lap, or with another cat or even a dog.)
I am very active, and love playing with wand toys, catnip mice, and my ball track.- I like to sleep wherever it is warm. Favourite places include on my human mom's lap, in my cat sleeping bag, and under the covers between my two humans at night.
- It hurts my feelings when people leave comments saying that I look ugly or leave other insulting comments about me. I know I don't look like an "ordinary" cat, but people don't need to be mean or cruel.
- However, my humans think I'm cute, adorable, and handsome, and so do my cat blogging friends. They are the only ones whose opinion really matters.

Toesday and Cats on Tuesday
Here are a couple of photos of my toes! I was sleeping with my hind legs on either side of my head, and my head down, which my mom thought was very funny. You can see my toes rather nicely in these shots.

You can also see some of the brown wax and oil build-up on my claws. As I've mentioned before, since I have no fur, the wax and oil that my skin secretes tends to build up, and my self-grooming isn't sufficient to remove it all. So my mom cleans my feet, toes and claws once or twice a week, as needed.

My Cat Tree
Here are some collages of me hanging out on my cat tree. It's in front of one of the large windows in my room (where my food dishes and litterbox are, but on opposite sides of the room.) My humans call it the office/spare room/computer room however. Silly humans.
I like to curl up on my cat tree, or watch what's happening outside. In the morning, it's nice and warm since the morning sun shines directly into my room.

Egyptian Museum
The other day, my humans visited the Staatliches Museum Ägyptischer Kunst (Museum of Egyptian Art) here in Munich. You can read about their visit, and see the photos they took here.
The Egyptians were very smart people; they worshipped cats as gods and goddesses. I know that our humans worship us, but not to the same degree that the Egyptians worshipped cats.
My humans brought back a necklace of the cat goddess Bastet. Bastet was worshipped as the goddess of love and joy. Here I am modelling this necklace. I didn't wear it for long - only long enough to have my picture taken, while I was safe in my mom's lap. I think it is a lovely necklace, and when mom was wearing it, I kept trying to play with it.
